Members of Facebook will be able to customize the profile address

As of Saturday, over 200 million users of social network Facebook may customize the addresses of their personal pages. Instead of the series of random numbers (eg "www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1234567"), each user can choose the name that will appear after the URL www.facebook.com.

This will facilitate the search for profiles in search engines, which may consequently increase the number of visits to social network.

There are however some limitations: this option is available only to members who registered before 31 May this year and have over 1000 contacts in their network. After the name is chosen, the user may not alter or sell.

The social network also advises users to choose names of your next real names or the business they represent and regulate violations of copyright.

This is not at all unique. Social network competitor MySpace and Twitter microblogging service already provide this functionality for some time.
